Favorite Foods of National Nutrition Month

March is national nutrition month, who would have guessed!? What are you doing to celebrate? Your eating habits will have a huge effect on your health levels and choosing to make healthy eating choices this month may make more of a difference than you would guess.

So, instead of reaching for the potato chips this week and instead of driving through the fast food drive through for dinner, you may want to reach for these healthy alternatives…

  1. Apples – Apples are a great source of antioxidants and some studies have even shown that they can help minimize the chances of developing heart disease. Apples are great on their own, but you can also cut them up and eat them with some type of nut butter. Have you ever tried almond butter? If not, give it a try with your next apple!
  2. Almonds – Almonds have a variety of different nutrients packed in them. Iron, calcium, vitamin E, fiver, magnesium and riboflavin are all jam packed into these little nuts. Grab a handful of them and take them for breakfast or cut some up and throw them on top of your salad, it will be worth it.
  3. Broccoli – These miniature trees can provide you with fiber, folate, potassium, calcium and phytonutrients Eating broccoli raw is a great way to take advantage of all that it has to offer, but many people like it cooked. If you cook your broccoli, make sure that you do not overcook it.  Cooking it for too long can destroy many of the nutritional benefits it has to offer.

This month take control of your health by taking control of your nutrition. Make small changes in your diet and you may be surprised by the results.
