7 Halloween Safety Tips

Autumn, Decoration, Face, Fall, Scary, Jack-o-lanternIt’s almost the end of October, and porches across the country are adorned with jack-o-lanterns, spider webs, and other spooky decorations, all in anticipation of a procession of trick-or-treaters.

Halloween is fun and festive for children of all ages, but it can be dangerous as well. To help keep your family of witches, warlocks, and wizards safe this Halloween, follow these 7 tips:

Top 7 Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters

  1. Choose costumes with bright colors to help you be more visible in the dark
  2. Add extra reflective tape, ribbons, and stickers to costumes, hats, and treat bags for extra visibility
  3. Trick-or-treat in groups; never alone
  4. Take flash lights and glow sticks trick-or-treating with you
  5. Only go trick-or-treating at homes with a well-lit porch
  6. Avoid masks (they decrease visibility) and make sure costumes fit well to prevent tripping
  7. Inspect candy for tampering, and don’t eat homemade treats from strangers

Visibility should be the top priority when you take your family trick-or-treating. You want to see vehicles, and you want them to see you. Bright colored costumes and reflexive tape help achieve this, but you should always be on alert and stick to sidewalks and designated crosswalks.
